Both the Q5 and the Q7 Max Series get very good robot vacuum scores in our tests on floors that are bare and are particularly effective in cleaning pet hair. There are some issues however, which hinder them from being our top choice. One of the Q5's shortcomings is its navigation system doesn't feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's thus susceptible to getting stuck on shoes and socks and could not navigate through rooms with a lot of people well during our tests. It doesn't also have a camera to see around corners.

It's still a good value, especially if your office or home has a lot of bare floors and you're looking to save some money. Additionally, it's quiet and can be used when you're at work or school. It lacks the edge-to-edge bare floor vacuuming feature that's offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. And it's less effective at mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes that don't hold on for long and don't deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 does have a self-emptying dock, though. If you're required to, the mopping pad can be swapped for a wet one in minutes.

2. iRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact elegant vacuum cleaner that also has the ability to mop floors. Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it easy to clean and efficient at tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also comes with an impressive suction system and a self-emptying bin. It's the best robotic hoover for carpets but it isn't as effective as some of its competitors when it comes to deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mops utilizes sensor technology that can stay clear of obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the layout of your home over time to provide more efficient cleaning. You can alter the schedule of cleaning and even customize zones through the well-designed app. Its battery life is average when compared to other models.

If the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can tell it to remove and extend its mops. This helps prevent cross-contamination. The flex arm can be used to reach beneath furniture that is low and along baseboards. During tests, X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop to clean an entire home with just 66 percent of its battery remaining. It also did a good job of cleaning a mix of floors and rooms that had mixed flooring types, including certain area rugs. Its obstacle detection was top notch and it was nimbly avoiding fake dog turds, socks, shoes and cables.

It's a little more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but has superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can also clean the floor even after it vacuums. This is a feature that we haven't seen before on other robot vacuum/mop combination.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

With a sleek, circular design that looks like a regular Roomba rather than the compact models This robot vacuum and mop combo is among the most attractive looking models in our tests. iRobot's latest flagship model also happens to be its smartest, with advanced features including Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology as well as future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can wash its own mop pads).

It's the only robot vacuum/mop to score a perfect 10 in our testing thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors, which include a camera, structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can completely self-refill and empty its base station, and it has an its own self-cleaning mop pads.

Like other iRobot models like the X40 is easy to use, offering a simple mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only issue is that it's loud which could be problematic if you run it in the morning prior to work or at night as you attempt to sleep.

It's also quite expensive, although it's not as pricey as the Ecovacs Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are similarly capable and better-looking. This is a two-in-one vacuum that's extremely powerful however, it will cost you more and produce more noise.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the line robot mop and vacuum. It comes with a variety of advanced features that make you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning device that is similar to Ecovacs the top of the line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It features a multi-functional dock that can automatically emptys the vacuum's bin and fills up the water tank, and cleans and dry mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of LIDAR and structured lighting to draw out floor plans and spot obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its premium competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time hazards detection but this wasn't 100% reliable in our tests and was often confused with power cords or obstructions.

Its vacuum has a high suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also comes with "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the intensity at which the vacuum works and also adjusts the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house according to the amount of dirt they are.

If you have a larger home, it's worth selecting a robot that comes with the option of cleaning zones or spots. This allows you to inform the robot vacuums best of which area of your house needs to be cleaned by using the app or voice command. If you have lots of furniture, a stairway mode is also useful. For busy families, a recharge feature and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to resume where it left off could be very useful.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is a more efficient cleaner than you might imagine from its price. It does a stellar job vacuuming, picking up 55% of debris in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). And it's highly self-sufficient with a fully-featured app as well as an auto-emptying, washable base.

The iRobot app is designed to help you navigate a mapping run, which gathers information on your floorplan and any "no go" areas you've marked on the map. The app comes with a variety of features, such as seasonal suggestions, customized mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.

It is capable of vacuuming, but it is more susceptible to getting caught on low thresholds and is more noisy than the other top robotic vacuums we've tried. It also has a less intuitive app and a small base station that can't be used as a bin for emptying.
