WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a boosts in specific statistics. Each upgrade increases the item level by +3. Each upgrade also increases an unspecified substat.

The more modernized gear generally has a more value in trade regardless of whether it has low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or has a high stat variation (like the eth titan weapons). Upgrades are not as valuable for those with higher variance because of the requirement to roll a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear by offering the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied on any type of weapon or armor. The Best item upgrade used to upgrade the item is discarded and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be used to create enchantments.

The upgrader is located in all major cities and can be visited at any time to upgrade your equipment. To keep your gear current, it is recommended that you visit the upgrader every few weeks.

The cost of upgrades will be based on the current level of the item being upgraded, but will always be cheaper than purchasing new equipment from other sources. For example upgrading a Benthic chest piece to ilvl 385 will cost 20 recycle points purchasing a similar piece from another player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to upgrade tools, armor, weapon, and accessory upgrades. They can be purchased by players from NPCs of item upgraders for various currencies. They are also available on random treasure lists. Once an upgrade has been purchased, it can be applied to any weapon or tool with a button, which will show an item's preview when it is upgraded if the player has sufficient materials.

The upgrade cost depends on the item slot and the current Item Upgrader Kit (Lovebookmark.Win) level and the weapon's price is higher than gloves or bracers for instance. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones plus a set number of crests. Some upgrades offer a discount on the Flightstones. Once an item is upgraded to a certain degree, it can be downgraded and sold to the upgrader for a lower price.

Upgraders for items can be found in a variety of locations on the main island as well as some outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade coupon and the chance to obtain the latest recipe. The upgrade discount increases when more items are upgraded. It can be increased if players complete certain achievements or complete quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an upgrader for items at the start, unlike Cromwell from Baldur's gate II. Instead the NPCs that are available to facilitate upgrades require a variety of means which is both an improvement and a drawback.

In Season 3 the upgrade system has been altered a bit, with some new features added. After a player has earned an upgrade to a certain item level for a particular armor slot, upgrading additional items to the same level will cost less, even when they belong to another set of gear.

The discount applies to all accounts. Similarly, the amount of Harbinger Crests required for upgrades is also cut and is not available until players achieve certain milestones in their achievement.

Crests

Players have a variety of options when it comes to upgrading their equipment in WoW. This allows players to upgrade item their equipment to the highest possible level on all their characters, instead of relying on seasonal loot.

It's also important to use crests in a wise manner, as they have only one purpose. For instance it's a good idea utilize all of your Whelpling rank crests on the top equipment you have, and then save Drake and Wyrm crests for the next round of upgrades you're planning to create. This is especially true for items like rings and trinkets that take up multiple slots on the character, which will only be able to benefit from the account-wide discount when all of the slots are filled with top-quality equipment.
